OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 10 Auburn soccer team put 21 shots on the goal Friday night against No. 21 Ole Miss, but none were able to find the net as the Rebels defeated the Tigers, 2-0, at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

Auburn, which seemed to control much of possession throughout the game, struggled to find clear looks at goal as only six of its 21 shots were on target. Casie Ramsier led all Auburn players with five shots, but only one on goal.

Ole Miss was able to score with eight minutes left in the first half off a cross deep from the right side by Bethany Bunker. The Rebels doubled their lead early in the second half on an Addie Forbus header in the 49th minute.

"I thought our team battled really hard tonight," Auburn head coach Karen Hoppa said. "By the way the first half went, I thought we should have been ahead at halftime. Credit to Ole Miss when they had opportunities, they capitalized on them. When we had chances, we didn't have enough good looks at goal."

The loss drops Auburn's overall record to 12-3-0 and 5-3-0 in Southeastern Conference play. With still 15 points in the SEC standings, Auburn sits in a three-way tie for second-place with Ole Miss and Texas A&M, just one behind conference leaders South Carolina and Florida with three matches remaining in the regular-season.

"We have to keep focused the way we've been all year, looking at it one game at a time," Hoppa said. "We have to stay focused on one game at a time because our remaining opponents are just as tough as the rest of them."

Auburn's best opportunities came in the first half as the Tigers well outshot the Rebels, 14-5. Minutes after Ole Miss's first goal, Auburn nearly got a counter-attack equalizer as Ramsier headed on a perfect ball from the right side of the box, but bouncing it off the crossbar with no chance for an Auburn rebound.

The Tigers even controlled the corners game from the get-go with nine set pieces on the night compared to Ole Miss's one. However, each corner kick that Auburn earned, Ole Miss's defense and goalkeeper were there to clear it away.

"We were in this game right until the end," Hoppa said. "We had so much pressure on them with so much possession. It was one of those soccer games where you outplay somebody, but it doesn't mean you win. You have to have the final product and we didn't have the final product tonight."

Auburn will continue its push toward the end of the regular-season next week when it returns home to face Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m., which will be televised on SEC Network+.
