TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn women cross country team finished third with 74 points at the Crimson Classic on Friday at the Harry Pritchett Course.
"The ladies had a strong third place show and showed great confidence heading into the SEC Championships in two weeks," head coach Mark Carroll said. "Brenda and Veronica led us home in sixth and seventh, and I am very happy with their performance. On the men's side we had a good result also with fourth overall and led by Redatu (Semeon). We will take an easy couple days and we are excited for our final week training for SECs."
Freshman Brenda Kigen and junior Veronica Eder led the way for Auburn placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Kigen clocked a 5K time of 17:03.10 just ahead of Eder's 17:03.41. Sophomore Molly McKenna finished 12th at 17:22. Junior Taylor Duncan placed 20th at 17:38.04, and Rachel Givens finished 30th at 17:50.56.
On the men's side, Auburn finished fourth with 146 points. Senior Redatu Semeon paced the Tigers with a 21st place finish with an 8K time of 25:08.24. Freshman Reilly Shaw followed with a time of 25:18.22 to finish 24th. Sophomore Wesley Pectol ran a 25:22.54 to finish 27th, followed by Kevin Wyss, who placed 34th at 25:30.6` and sophomore Mitchell Gomez, who finished 40th at 25:37.96.
The Tigers return to action October 30 for the SEC Championships in College Station.
