Tigers sweep JSU Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. -- The Auburn men's and women's cross country teams earned team victories at the JSU Foothills Invitational on Saturday.

The men scored 17 points to win the 8k event ahead of Chattanooga (84), Troy (95) and Lipscomb (97). Senior Redatu Semeon finished first in 24:55.44 ahead of freshman Reilly Shaw (2nd in 25:13.38) and the sophomore trio of Mitchell Gomez (4th in 25:18.67), Coleman Churitch (6th in 25:26.29) and Kevin Wyss (25:28.85) who rounded out the Tigers scoring. Sophomore Wesley Curles set a 34 second personal-best with a 26:04.40 performance, while freshmen Alex Ngei (20th in 26:52.13) and Alex Tucker (22nd in 27:09.62) made their 8k debuts.

"We're very happy with today's performances with the men's and women's teams getting overall wins," head coach Mark Carroll said. "We had a lot of strong individual performances and times and an individual win with Redatu Semeon taking out the men's race. I'm excited for the Crimson Classic in two weeks where we'll race some SEC competition before we head to the SEC Championships."

The women scored 25 points to claim the win ahead of Chattanooga (36), Georgia State (116) and Lipscomb (135). Auburn's scoring five finished between positions three and seven, with junior Rachel Givens completing the 5k course in 17:47.46 followed by senior Kristin Sheehan in 17:52.49 and juniors Taylor Duncan in 17:57.40, Emily Stevens in 18:03.82 and Claire Kennedy in 18:04.03.

The Tigers will return to action October 16 at Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
