FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Auburn dropped its second straight road heartbreaker in SEC play, falling in five sets at Arkansas (25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 19-25, 11-15) Friday night at Barnhill Arena.
The Tigers (12-9, 4-5 SEC) dropped their second-straight five-setter on the road despite besting the Razorbacks (14-7, 4-5) in almost every statistical category.
Brenna McIlroy and Stephanie Campbell shared the Auburn lead with 15 kills apiece. Campbell also led Auburn with six blocks. Breanna Barksdale was the leading hitter for the Tigers, swinging at a .650 clip with 13 kills on 20 swings and no errors, and Courtney Crable added 12 kills.
McIlroy picked up her ninth double-double of the year with 15 kills and 10 digs. Alexa Filley had her 12th double-double with 47 assists and 14 digs. Jesse Earl had 20 digs to lead the Auburn defense, and Filley and Earl each had two service aces.
Auburn players hit two milestones in the match - Filley recorded her 2,000th career assist, and Campbell had her 600th career kill.
Auburn hit .253 as a team, its third-best percentage in an SEC match this year, while Arkansas hit .229. Auburn had 67 kills to Arkansas' 56 and 64 digs to the Hogs' 63. Arkansas, however, had 10 blocks to Auburn's eight. Pilar Victoria led Arkansas with 32 kills on 76 attempts.
The Tigers will travel to Columbia, Mo., Friday night in preparation for a Sunday afternoon match at Missouri. First serve on the SEC Network is set for 4 p.m. at the Hearnes Center.
