TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn freshman Brenda Kigen booked her ticket to the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky., with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA South Regional on Friday at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.
Kigen finished the 6k course in a time of 20:18.1 and was named to the All-Region team along with junior teammate Veronica Eder, who finished seventh in 20:27.5 and senior Redatu Semeon, who finished 11th in the men's 10k in a time of 31:03.8.
"We had a very good meet with both team's finishing fifth overall," head coach Mark Carroll said. "We had strong performances from Brenda (Kigen) and Veronica (Eder) who earned All-Region honors and on the men's side it was great to see Redatu (Semeon) end his cross-country career on a high and be named to the All-Region team as well."
The women's team scored 186 points with juniors Taylor Duncan (56th in 21:38.6) and Claire Kennedy (61st in 21:44.9) as the team's third and fourth scorer and senior Kristin Sheehan (63rd in 21:46.0) rounding out the Tigers scorers.
The men's team scored 174 points and following Semeon was the sophomore trio of Mitchell Gomez (29th place in 31:46.2), Kevin Wyss (35th place in 31:53.9) and Wesley Pectol (32:12.5) with freshman Reilly Shaw (55th place in a 32:26.0) the Tigers final scorer.
Auburn returns to action on Nov. 21 at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky.
