TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" The Auburn volleyball traveled to in-state rival Alabama Sunday and fell to the Crimson Tide, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 26-24). The loss drops the Tigers to 15-11 overall and 7-7 in SEC play.
Sophomore libero Jesse Earl had 10 digs in the match and classmate Courtney Crable led the Tigers with eight kills. Freshman Brenna McIlroy totaled seven kills and six digs, while sophomore setter Alexa Filley finished with 28 assists.
Krystal Rivers had a match-high 15 kills for Alabama (14-14, 8-6) and added eight digs. Kat Hudson totaled 11 kills and setter Sierra Wilson had 32 assists. Libero Natalie Murison finished with 13 digs.
The Tigers took an early 5-4 lead off an Emily Klitzke/Breanna Barksdale block and a Klitzke kill in the first set. However, tied at seven, the Tide used a four-point run to jump out at 11-7. Alabama pushed ahead at 18-11 and finished the set on a run to win 25-16.
A kill from McIlroy led to a 4-2 Auburn advantage to start set two and a Stephanie Campbell kill put the Tigers ahead 5-3. Alabama responded and used a run to go up 10-7 and pressed on for a 15-11 lead. Auburn locked the set at 15 apiece and the two teams exchanged points until the Tide finished the set on a run to take it 25-20.
After falling behind to open the third set, Auburn used a 5-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills from CiCi Silva to take a 12-7 lead. The squads went back and forth with points throughout the middle of the stanza and a kill from Silva set the score 23-20 in favor of Auburn. Following a timeout, Alabama regrouped and finished the match on a 6-1 run to take the set 26-24.
The Tigers close out their home schedule with two SEC matches in Auburn Arena next weekend. Auburn hosts Ole Miss Friday, Nov. 20, in a 5:30 p.m. match. The Tigers finish the weekend with a 1:30 p.m. contest against Arkansas Sunday, Nov. 22. The match will serve as senior day.
