AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn freshman Brenda Kigen finished 54th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

"Brenda had a super run today for a freshman," head coach Mark Carroll said. "She gained valuable experience today. She now knows what it takes to get to this position training wise and she can carry that forward in her career. I am very proud of the way Brenda competed this season.

Kigen clocked a 20:33.2 on the 6k course and finished in the top-10 among freshman in the field of 254. Kigen's finish is the highest by a female Tiger since Holly Knight placed 11th in 2008.

"It was a really fast race," Kigen said. "I'm happy I got to compete. I got such a great experience here. I learned how fast everyone in the field was, and it was such a great experience."

The Eldoret, Kenya native earned All-SEC honors this season after finishing fourth at the SEC Championships, before earning All-Region honors following her fifth place performance at the NCAA South Regional.
