Justin Youtsey is in a groove. A day after winning the men's 3-meter with two scores in the 400s, he came back on Thursday and won the 1-meter with a 347.15 at the Auburn Fall Diving Invitational.

"Today came from yesterday," Youtsey said. "The confidence that I got last night helped set me up for a great day today. This morning I had a better list than this evening but tonight I survived and that's all that really matters, being on top."

Youtsey scored a 57.20, 51.00, 67.20, 48.00, 54.00 and a 69.75 to top second place Matthew McClellan of LSU (335.95). Scott Lazeroff finished fourth with a 332.00 and Pete Turnham was sixth (297.30) after scoring a 348.65 in prelims.

Maddie Cox also had a solid afternoon, finishing second on the 1-meter with a 292.95, just ahead of teammate Carly Scheper who was third with a 287.05. Miranda Telmanik finished 10th with a 220.25 after a personal-best 228.15 in prelims.

"I thought all the girls did a better job," Auburn head coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Maddie did two new dives in competition. One went fairly well and her last wasn't as sharp as we want but it's going to help her be a little more competitive as we look toward the championship part of this season."

The three-day competition concludes on Friday at 11 am with both the men's and women's platform. Live scoring can be found on divemeets.com.
