Carly Scheper scored a 291.30 during the finals of the women’s 3-meter to earn a fifth-place finish at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Monday.
“Carly had a very solid performance today,” Auburn head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. “Carly stepping up and hitting a zone qualifying score is heading in the right direction for her.”
Scheper had scored a 269.80 in the prelims to advance to the 12-person finals while teammate Maddie Cox finished 11th with a finals score of 267.35 after scoring a 268.40 in prelims.
“In a contest with 50 competitors it takes some time to weather the storm, so to speak, and be consistent enough to get into the finals,” Shaffer said.
In the men’s 1-meter finals, Scott Lazeroff scored a 306.90 to place 10th. He had advanced to the finals with a 297.15 in prelims.
“It’s always good to see people step up and improve upon their prelims scores in the finals,” Shaffer said.
Pete Turnham placed 17th on the 1-meter (269.65) and Miranda Telmanik was 46th on the 3-meter (188.20).
The competition concludes on Tuesday with the platform. Live results are available on divemeets.com.
