Scott Lazeroff placed fifth on the men’s 3-meter and Maddie Cox placed eighth and Carly Scheper was 11th on the women’s 1-meter on the first day of the Georgia Diving Invitational.
“Scott led us today,” Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. “He did a real steady job in the prelims. Maddie and Carly both had solid performances to lead us off on day one.”
Lazeroff scored a season-best 365.85 in the finals of the 3-meter to take the top spot by an Auburn diver. He had scored a 328.40 in the prelims to enter the 12-man final round in seventh. His previous season-best was a 354.95 at the Auburn Fall Invitational on Dec. 17.
Cox went into the finals in ninth following a 255.65 in prelims and then scored a 271.15 to finish eighth. Scheper had scored a 258.05 in prelims before scoring a season-best 259.40 in the finals to finish 11th.
“You never know what to expect coming back off of a seven-day break,” Shaffer said. “We made some good corrections and it was a really solid first day.”
Pete Turnham scored a 267.80 to place 23rd on the 3-meter and Miranda Telmanik scored a 195.25 to finish 45th on the 1-meter.
The competition continues on Monday with the men’s 1-meter and the women’s 3-meter. Live results are available on divemeets.com.
