Peter Holodaput the swimming world on notice on Thursday afternoon. The sophomore from Hungary out-touched the field in the 50- and 100- freestyles and served up the fastest anchor leg in the 200 medley relay as Auburn traveled to Texas for its first dual meet of the new year.

"Peter was strong and it was good to see him get some wins," Auburn head coach Brett Hawke said. "It was tough to get wins out there today so when Peter broke through it was a good feeling."

Holoda, who competed but did not place at last year's NCAA Championships, started his day off with a 19.14 anchor leg for the second-place medley relay team, the best split in the field by .30 seconds. He returned five races later and out-touched Brett Ringgold by .06 second to finish the 50 free in 20.10.

Holoda continued his impressive showing just one race later, leading an Auburn sweep of the 100 free with a time of 44.51. Zach Apple was second in 45.15, Jacob Molacek took third in 45.21 and Kyle Darmody was fourth (45.36).

Texas won both team meets, with the top-ranked men defeating No. 8 Auburn, 156-136, and the No. 6 women topping No. 10 Auburn, 171-121.

"We haven't raced in a month and all we have been doing is training," Hawke said. "Sometimes you push real hard with the training and it can show up in your first dual meet back. That's kind of what we saw today. There are some heavy bodies, some tired bodies. At the end of the day we lost some close races."

Luis Martinez, who last month qualified for the summer's Olympics, picked up a win in the 100 butterfly, touching in 47.45, which was over a half-second faster than second place.

Joe Patching earned Auburn's other individual win, racing to a 1:46.90 in the 200 IM.

"I've been extremely happy with the training and extremely happy with the attitude," Hawke said. "Even though we were losing some races today the attitude stayed positive. The mentality was to keep pushing and keep striving. The leadership is good. There are a lot of positives to takes from today's mee. We are just going to address some of the things we need to adjust."

Auburn closed out the men's meet with a win in the men's 200 free relay in a time of 1:19.89. Holoda again had one of the fastest splits in the field, swimming the second leg in 19.90 seconds. Michael Duderstadt led off the race, Darmody followed Holoda and Apple anchored.

In the women's races Ashley Neidigh earned a season-best time in the 1,000 free, placing second in 9:45.50, lowering her top time this season by over two seconds. She also took home a runner-up finish in the 500 free in a time of 4:51.45.

Aly Tetzloff had the second-best times in both the 100 free (50.12) and the 100 fly (54.60) and anchored the 200 free relay with a 22.86 split, second-fastest in the field.

Auburn returns home for its next dual meet, playing host to Arkansas in a women's only meet on Friday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m.
