AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn women's tennis coach Lauren Spencer became the all-time winningest coach in Auburn women's tennis history with two wins on Saturday. Spencer picked up her 70th win as the Tigers beat North Florida 5-1 in the first match. Auburn beat Georgia Southern 4-0 in the second match to improve to 11-1 on the season.
"Early in my coaching career, one of my mentors told me that to be successful, it's all about who you surround yourself with. I have really surrounded myself with a tremendous coaching staff, a fantastic support staff and my family and friends. Most importantly, the girls that I have had the privilege to coach have been tremendous to work with. It's not just my accomplishment, but it's also an accomplishment for our program and what we are trying to do here with our program. I just thank everyone who helped me along the way."
Two-time All-American Pleun Burgmans also became the all-time leader in doubles victories, passing former doubles partner Emily Flickinger with her 94th career doubles win.
"I want to give credit to Pleun on her win today," said Spencer. "This is a very big accomplishment for her and I know she shares this with all the doubles partners that she has had along the way, who helped her to get here. For her to reach this win is tremendous and I think it's just the first of many more accomplishments in the future."
No. 35 Auburn got the day started with another strong doubles performance. Andie Dikosavljevic and Alannah Griffin were first off the court, beating Michelle Valdez and Hannah Fluhrer of North Florida 6-0. Alizee Michaud and Reka Muller clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Luise Intert and Rafaela Gomez on court two. Burgmans and Paula de Man wrapped up doubles with a 6-2 win on court one.
In singles, Alizee Michaud gave Auburn a 2-0 lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win on court three. No. 27 Andie Dikosavljevic picked up her 14th win of the season, beating Quetzali Vazquez 6-2, 6-0. Senior Paula de Man clinched the match, winning 6-2, 7-5 on court five.
In the second match, Dikosavljevic and Griffin stayed undefeated in doubles for the season with their eighth straight victory, beating Giulia Riepe and Francisca Norregaard of Georgia Southern 6-0. Burgmans and de Man clinched the doubles point for Auburn with a 6-2 win on court one.
Auburn made quick work of Georgia Southern in singles. Burgmans was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Mariana Ranzahuer on court two. She was followed by doubles partner Paula de Man, who won 6-2, 6-0 on court four. Freshman Alannah Griffin clinched the match for Auburn on court three, beating Lindsay Truscott of Georgia Southern 6-1, 6-2.
Auburn women's tennis will return to action next weekend when the Tigers travel to Montgomery for the annual Blue/Gray Tournament. Auburn will be joined by Alabama, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Princeton and Texas in the prestigious tournament. Draws will be announced Feb. 23.
