Andrew Mitchell threw five scoreless innings as Auburn baseball defeated Florida A&M 11-2 on Wednesday at Plainsman Park. The Tigers scored a season-high 11 runs including a five-run eighth inning.

"We kind of need that," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "We tried to make a few adjustments and both guys executed a completely different plan the first time we saw them pitch. I thought we had a little more success with it. We really took the sting out of the swing tonight with those two pitchers. I was pleased by that."

Mitchell (1-0) struck out three and didn't allow a run to earn his first victory at Auburn.

Niko Buentello led the way offensively with three hits and four RBI. He got it going in the first with a triple that scored Anfernee Grier. The Lewisville, Texas, native then doubled in the third to bring home another run and added two RBI in the big eighth inning.

Buentello has 14 RBI through four games in 2016.

Jordan Ebert capped the big eighth inning with his first home run of the season, a three-run shot over the wall in left that stretched the Auburn (2-2) lead to 11-2.

Blake Logan had two RBI, while Joshua Palacios and Daniel Robert both drove in a run. Ebert and Grier finished with three hits each. Ebert also had two stolen bases.

Florida A&M (2-2) scored a pair in the seventh taking advantage of three infield singles for its only runs of the game.

Ryan Anderson (0-1) took the loss for the Rattlers. He allowed five runs in 2.1 innings pitched.

Marlon Gibbs and Brian Davis each had two hits for FAMU.

Auburn hosts Southern for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at 3 pm CT. The game will be broadcast on SECN+.
