AUBURN, Ala. - Right-hander Justin Camp pitched a career-high 8.0 innings with a career-best nine strikeouts as Auburn baseball shutout Southern University 7-0 on Saturday at Plainsman Park.
"It was a clean game, a good baseball game," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "A fifth-year senior with a lot of maturity went out there and handled the ball really good today."
A fifth-year senior from Decatur, Ala., Camp (1-0) retired 16-straight batters after allowing a leadoff single in the second. His next hit allowed came to open the eighth.
Camp allowed just the two hits and no runs to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Junior Gordon Cardenas pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish the game for the Tigers.
Auburn (4-2) scored in the first six innings including Daniel Robert's first home run of the season in the fourth.
The Tigers have homered in six-straight games to open the season, its longest streak since 2010.
Jordan Ebert singled and had two RBI to extend his hitting streak to 10 games dating back to last season.
Joshua Palacios led Auburn with three hits including a triple. Grier and Robert each had two hits.
Harold Myers (0-2) took the loss for Southern. He allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings.
Jose DeLa Torre had the only two hits for Southern (0-5).
Auburn and the Jaguars conclude the series Sunday at 12:30 pm CT.
