BATON ROUGE, La. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn women's golf climbed three spots up the leaderboard following the second round at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic on Monday.
The Tigers moved up to 14th place following a round of 312 (+24) and now stand at 638 (+62) for the tournament, three shots ahead of Oklahoma and six back of North Carolina. It was a 14-shot improvement over the Tigers' first-round score.
Freshman Melanie Talbott and sophomore Michaela Owen led the Auburn effort Monday with matching scores of 77 (+5), almost two shots better than the field average in round two. Talbott made three birdies in her first four holes, then birdied the last two holes of the day. Owen had a pair of birdies on an even-par first nine. Owen's score was a nine-shot improvement over her first round, and Talbott was eight shots better in the second round.
Kelli Murphy and Clara Baena each had rounds of 79 (+7). Murphy finished with three birdies on the day.
Duke pulled ahead to a 12-shot lead at 13-over with Arkansas at 25-over in second place.
The final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday. Auburn is paired with Oklahoma and North Carolina for the final 18 holes. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
