ATLANTA - Hugo Morris and Arthur Mendes will both swim in the nighttime finals of the 200 butterfly and Auburn will send a relay team to the blocks for the 400 freestyle relay as prelim 2016 Men's Swimming and Diving Championship action concluded on Saturday at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center. Scott Lazeroff also advanced to the finals on the platform.
Morris will swim in the championship final of the 200 butterfly after finishing seventh during the morning in 1:41.64. Last year Morris finished 35th in the event. He is the first Auburn swimmer to advance to the championship finals of the event since Logan Madson took third in 2009.
Mendes will swim in the B Final of the 200 butterfly after finishing the morning 12th in a time of 1:42.58. He also swam the consolation finals of the 200 fly in 2014.
Auburn will send its fourth relay to the championship finals of the meet after qualifying fifth in the 400 freestyle relay. Jacob Molacek (43.29), Kyle Darmody (42.54), Joe Patching (43.06) and Peter Holoda (42.12) finished second in their heat to make the A Final.
Lazeroff will also return for the finals of the platform after scoring a 399.25 during prelims to qualify fourth. Lazeroff's round-by-round scores were 64.50, 59.40, 61.05, 63.00, 68.80 and 82.50. This will be the fourth straight year Auburn has had a top-16 finisher on the platform and the second straight it will have a top-eight finisher.
