AUBURN, Ala. -- Sophomore Andie Dikosavljevic and freshman Alannah Griffin led the way as No. 29 Auburn women's tennis (13-2) took down No. 14 Texas A&M 4-2 in the SEC home opener.
"This week was a little stressful trying to figure out our doubles," Auburn women's tennis coach Lauren Spencer said. "We decided we needed to break everyone up and it brought a fresh attitude to our team. This was a very talented team and we knew we would have to fight. I was very proud of Alannah Griffin in her first SEC match. I have been waiting to see her greatness and I think it finally showed up tonight. We know that we can be a top 25 team, but we also know that it won't be given to us. We are going to have to fight for it."
Auburn jumped ahead of Texas A&M, 1-0 after taking the doubles point. Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud got things started with a convincing 6-3 win over Rachel Pierson and Eva Paalma from Texas A&M on court one.
Freshman duo, Caroline Turner and Alannah Griffin clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court for against Domenica Gonzalez and Ines Dehezafrom Texas A&M.
No. 32 Andie Dikosavljevic improved to 9-2 on the dual-match season with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 spot, over No. 53 Saska Gavrilovska. Griffin made the score 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eva Paalma on court four.
Michaud clinched the match for the Tigers with a three set thriller, beating Rutuja Bhosale of Texas A&M, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Auburn will face off against No. 9 LSU on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. The match will be played at Yarbrough Tennis Center and the first 50 fans will receive a FREE War Eagle t-shirt.
