Auburn divers Justin Youtsey and Scott Lazeroff each secured their NCAA Championships spots by finishing in the top 10 on the 3-meter at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships on Monday at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

Youtsey, a senior, scored a 752.05 to place fifth while Lazeroff, a freshman, scored a 717.05 to finish ninth, which qualified both of them for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech March 23-26. Pete Turnham also advanced to the finals where he placed 13th with a 662.00.

"The guys did a great job," Auburn head coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Pete did a great job with his first list (prelims) but was a little off with his second list (finals). He showed great improvement on 3-meter, which is not his best event right now. This should take some of the pressure off of Justin and Scott tomorrow as they have already made the (NCAA) meet."

In the women's 1-meter competition, Maddie Cox finished 14th with a 263.60.

"Maddie was real consistent but needs to be a little bit sharper to get to NCAAs," Shaffer said. "I was real pleased with her effort, we just have to be more consistent."

The three-day competition continues on Tuesday with the women's 3-meter and the men's 1-meter events. The platform will be contested on Wednesday.
