AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" No. 7 Georgia topped No. 59 Auburn at home in men's tennis Sunday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, defeating the Tigers by a 4-0 score.
Three of the six first sets went to tiebreakers, but Georgia emerged the winner in straight-set wins on courts one, three and six to clinch the match. Dante Saleh on court four was the only Tiger to win his first set, by a 7-6 (7-4) count over Jan Zielinski. The remaining singles matches were not completed.
Georgia took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Saleh and Conner Huertas del Pino were leading 5-4 on court three but that match went unfinished.
Auburn is now 11-12 and ranked No. 59 nationally as a team. No. 7 Georgia is 16-3 overall and 10-0 in SEC action, clinching a share of the conference title with the win Sunday.
The Tigers close the SEC regular season with a pair of home conference matches at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Friday, Auburn hosts Tennessee at 5 p.m. Sunday, the Tigers host Kentucky on Senior Day at 1 p.m. All home matches are played at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
