Senior Jamie Yun earned a match-play win to help the Tigers defeat Oregon State Sunday.
ATHENS, Ga. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn women's golf picked up a 3-2 win over Oregon State in match play Sunday to close out a successful week at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
Senior Jamie Yun, sophomore Michaela Owen and freshman Mai Dechathipat all earned victories to give the Tigers their second win in three matches over the weekend.
Dechathipat defeated OSU's Ashlee Pickerell, 6 and 4, as she took an early lead and never looked back. She won three of her first six holes and took a 3-up lead to the second nine. Wins at the 11th and 13th holes left her dormie with five holes to play, and a birdie at the 14th closed out the match.
Owen also controlled her match from start to finish, never trailing OSU's Hannah Swanson in a 4-and-2 win. After halving the first hole, the players traded wins on the next four holes before Owen won the seventh and ninth holes to take a 2-up lead at the turn. She would make pars on six of her seven remaining holes and was dormie with four holes left. Swanson won the 15th to cut the lead to 3-up, but Owen won the 16th to clinch the victory.
Yun never trailed in her match, but a late charge by the Beavers' Olivia Benzin made things interesting down the stretch. Yun held a 3-up lead after 11 holes, but Benzin would square the match with wins at 12, 16 and 17. But Yun would make par on the final hole while Benzin carded a bogey, clinching the win for both Yun and Auburn.
Auburn finished the weekend 2-1 in match play as the Tigers also picked up a win over Arkansas Saturday morning while falling to No. 1 Duke in the afternoon match Saturday. Owen won two of her three matches on the weekend while Dechathipat, Yun and Kelli Murphy picked up one individual win apiece.
The Tigers will begin postseason play April 15-17 with the 2016 SEC Championship, which will be played at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham.
