COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Senior Justin Camp pitched seven innings and did not allow an earned run, but Auburn baseball fell 2-0 to Missouri on Friday at Taylor Stadium.
"For [Justin Camp] to get through seven innings was big," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "We showed a lot of trust in him. That's back-to-back days where we have told them we are really going to trust them. I think we have seen our guys relax and feel comfortable and make pitches. He created ground balls, mishits and got it off the barrel and took the sting out of their swings and got us to the seventh inning and did a great job."
Missouri (19-14, 3-8) scored a run in the first taking advantage of a throwing error for an early 1-0 lead. That was all the offense they could muster in a gutsy effort by Camp.
The Decatur, Ala. native scattered five hits and allowed three walks with three strikeouts to post the longest SEC outing of his career. He finished the night with career-high tying 107 pitches.
Missouri ace Tanner Houck limited Auburn to just four hits on the night. He struck out 10 with just one walk. He improved to 4-2 on the season.
Niko Buentello had two hits to lead Auburn (15-16, 3-8). Kyler Deese and Jackson Burgreen tallied the other two hits.
Izaac Yarbrough pitched the eighth for Auburn with one run allowed.
Shane Benes had two hits for Mizzou.
Auburn and Missouri wrap the series on Saturday at 1 p.m.
