AUBURN, Ala. - No. 8 duo Pleun Burgmans and Alizee Michaud advanced to the NCAA Championships Round of 16, defeating Michigan's No. 11 Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook 5-7, 6-2, 10-4.
After dropping a tough first set 5-7, Burgmans and Michaud gained momentum in the second set and never looked back. Burgmans and Michaud took the second set 6-2 and 10-4 in the tiebreaker to win the match.
The duo improves to 14-5 on the season with the win and advance to the Round of 16. Burgmans and Michaud lead the team with an 8-3 record against ranked opponents this season.
This is the second time Burgmans has reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships. She advanced to the semifinals with teammate Emily Flickinger in 2014.
Sophomores Andie Dikosavljevic and Michaud both fell in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament on Wednesday. After taking the first set, Michaud never regained momentum and fell to Georgia Tech's No. 24 Johnnise Renaud. Dikosavljevic fell in the second match of the day to No. 39 Paige Hourigan of Georgia Tech.
No. 8 Burgmans and Michaud will advance to play No. 29 Hadley Berg and Paige Cline of South Carolina tomorrow. The match time has not been decided.
