In the fourth of a nine-part installment, AuburnTigers.com asked nine questions of the returning and incoming members of the 2016-17 Auburn women's golf team. Next up: sophomore Maria Donado.
1. What are you doing this summer?
Maria: This summer I stayed at Auburn taking two classes the first mini-semester, then I traveled to Colombia where I am spending time with my family and friends but also playing some tournaments.
2. What’s the strangest/funniest thing you’ve ever seen on the golf course?
Maria: The strangest - but also funny - was one time I was playing a tournament in Florida. I was looking for a ball and one part of the rough was muddy and my feet get stuck and couldn't take it out, so I ended up using my mother's golf shoes the rest of the round.
3. Your dream foursome – who are the three people you would want to play 18 holes with, and why?
Maria: My dream foursome will be Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott, Tiger Woods because they are athletes I admired for a long time on how they play and the type of people they are.
4. What do you do to get away from golf and school? What’s your escape in your down time?
Maria: I enjoy listening to music and doing other sports, but also spending time with my friends.
5. What was it about Auburn that made it stand out above other schools you considered?
Maria: At the beginning it was about the facilities and all the spaces they have, but when I got to know the people that make part of the Auburn family, I felt that it was a special place to stay.
6. If you could play any other sport, what would it be?
Maria: It would be tennis, I practiced when I was little and I enjoy it a lot.
7. What is your favorite Auburn tradition?
Maria: The marching band is one of my favorite traditions because it makes you feel the Auburn spirit.
8. Is there a golfer whose game you have tried to emulate, or have you developed your own game?
Maria: I have developed my own game over the years and learning how to make it better.
9. Golf courses: what’s the toughest course you’ve played, your favorite course that you’ve played, and one that you most want to play?
Maria: One course I most want to play is Augusta National. Forest Highlands is one of the toughest courses but also favorite course I have played.
