Clemson (1-0-0) opened the scoring in the first half just nine minutes in on a volley from a cross put into the box.
With the road team holding a 1-0 advantage, there was a stoppage of play in the 23rd minute due to lightning in the surrounding area.
Once play resumed, Auburn came out firing. The home team rattled off back-to-back shots from Dani Solaru and Schell, but the Clemson defense kept things were they stood at 1-0.
Auburn was able to set up a pair of corners in the second half leading to attempts on goal, but not before Clemson doubled its lead at 2-0.
Despite a late charge from Auburn, the score remained the same and sent the Tigers to just their fourth home-opening loss all-time.
Auburn has a quick turnaround when it travels to Mobile, Ala. for a duel with South Alabama. Kickoff is set for Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
