The Auburn track and field program will be holding its first Track & Field Instructional School this fall. The camp designed for male and female athletes ages 13 through current high school seniors. The Auburn coaching staff, along with selected current and former Auburn track and field athletes, will be on hand to provide expert technical instruction for each event, including sprints, jumps, distance and throws.
The seven session camp will take place on Monday nights from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. CT and will run Sept. 26-Nov. 14. There will be no training session on Monday, Oct. 31.
"This is a very unique opportunity for athletes to train at our facility in the fall with our coaches in order to develop and prepare for their upcoming track and field seasons in the spring," head coach Ralph Spry said. "The level of training and instruction these kids have the opportunity to receive from our coaches will hopefully help younger kids improve and develop in their individual events, whether it be running, jumping, or throwing."
Spry says these camps may also benefit athletes of other sports as well, not just those young athletes already participating in track and field.
"We get many requests throughout the year to assist with speed development from kids interested in football, baseball, and other sports," Spry said. "This camp gives those kids an opportunity to come out and work with our sprint coaches on developing their speed by focusing on and learning the proper technical aspects of sprinting. They will also learn new training programs and philosophies that will help them continue to develop in those areas. I think this can be a huge benefit to kids over a variety of sports."
Pre-registration is currently available at www.auburntrackcamps.com. The camp is open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, grade, and/or gender). The cost of the camp (all seven sessions included) is $295.
