AUBURN, Ala. -- No. 24 Auburn will look to continue its winning streak when it travels to Birmingham, Ala. for a battle with Samford. The Tigers (2-1-0) have posted back-to-back shutouts and will have the opportunity to continue the run at 6 p.m. on Sunday night.
Auburn have faced the Bulldogs (1-1-1) 12 times in program history and hold a .792 winning clip all-time. In matchups in Birmingham, the Tigers have amassed three wins and a draw in five contests.
Auburn brought the fireworks in a 2-0 win on Friday against Cal State Fullerton. Courtney Schell scored a goal and tallied an assist, becoming the first player since Casie Ramsier (Sept. 25, 2015) to accomplish the feat in a match.
Following their battle with the Bulldogs, the Tigers host the Auburn Soccer Classic, Sept. 2-4. The four-team tournament features Georgia, Iowa State and USC. Auburn is set to take on Iowa State at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing USC on Sunday night at 6 p.m.
Scouting Samford
The Bulldogs have begun the season even across the board. Samford holds a 1-1-1 record with three goals scored and three goals allowed. The Bulldogs recently fell at Georgia 3-1 on Friday night. Samford has tallied its three goals and four assists from seven different sources in 2016. Goalie Katie Peters has gone the distance between the posts and made 11 saves through 290 minutes of play.
Player to Watch: Kiana Clarke
Senior centerback Kiana Clarke has been instrumental in Auburn's posting of back-to-back shutouts at South Alabama and against Cal State Fullerton. Clarke is the only player to play in all 287 minutes of the Tigers' three matches thus far in the 2016 campaign.
