AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn softball graduate assistant Elayna Siebert has been chosen as a finalist for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Siebert is one of nine finalists who will be honored at an awards dinner Oct. 16 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Three women from each NCAA division were selected. Their college careers are highlighted by outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
Siebert, a graduate of Carson-Newman University, was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American with an accounting major. She earned the Carson-Newman Academic Athlete of the Year and South Atlantic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year while playing for the Eagles.
On the diamond, Siebert was a utility player and helped lead Carson-Newman to the regular season conference championship in 2015. She was tabbed as a Daktronics All-American and finished second in program history with 14 career triples.
In the community, Siebert volunteered with Compassion International, coached a local travel softball team and regularly served breakfast for the homeless.
Siebert and the other eight finalists were chosen from 30 Woman of the Year honorees who will be recognized during the event. This group of 30 includes 10 honorees from each NCAA division and represents a range of sports. Schools nominated 517 college athletes for the 2016 award.
