AUBURN, Ala. -- After a week off from competition, Auburn cross country will return to action Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The men will compete in the 8k gold race at 8:30 a.m. CT against 23 schools, including seven ranked within their respective regions. On the women's side, the Tigers will compete in the 5k blue race at 10:30 a.m. against a field of 28 teams, with 11 ranked in their respective regions.
The men's squad is coming off of a seventh-place finish at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 17. In the men's 8k, junior Kevin Wyss was Auburn's top finisher, finishing 20th, while freshman Ryan Lee and junior Jay Spieler both posted personal bests.
On the women's side, senior Veronica Eder has gotten off to a strong start with top-five finishes in all three races this season. Eder finished fifth at the Commodore Classic in the women's 5k with a time of 17:06.20.
After advancing to the NCAA Championships last season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA South Regional, sophomore Brenda Kigen will compete in her first meet in the 2016 season. Kigen finished fourth at the 2015 SEC Championship, earning SEC All-Freshman honors. She posted a personal best 17:03.10 in the 5k at the Crimson Classic last season.
Following the Greater Louisville Classic, the Tigers will have another week off and return to action at the Crimson Classic on October 14 in Tuscaloosa.
