AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn basketball opens its 18-game SEC schedule for the 2016-17 season prior to January for the first time in 28 years with a Dec. 29 home game vs. Georgia on ESPNU, the SEC announced on Tuesday.
The Tigers play their three common SEC opponents Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss home-and-home along with LSU and Missouri. Auburn plays Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State in Auburn Arena and Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Texas A&M on the road.
For its entire 2016-17 schedule, Auburn faces a possibility of playing 15 games against 12 teams that reached postseason last year, including seven games vs. those in the NCAA Tournament and eight in the NIT.
The Tigers' 15-game regular season home schedule features eight weekend games while there are currently only two home games at 8 pm for the second straight season. All 18 league games are televised.
The Tigers have four league home games on Saturday and five during the week.
After Auburn's SEC opener vs. Georgia, the Tigers play three consecutive games on the SEC Network at Vanderbilt on Jan. 4, Ole Miss on Jan. 7 and at Missouri on Jan. 10. Auburn will be on ESPN or ESPN2 in two of its next three games at Kentucky on Jan. 14 and Alabama on Jan. 21, sandwiching LSU on Jan. 18 on the SEC Network.
Auburn plays six of its next nine games on the road at South Carolina on Jan. 24 on the SEC Network, at TCU on Jan. 28 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on ESPNU followed by a pair of SEC Network games vs. Tennessee on Jan. 31 and at Alabama on Feb. 4.
The Tigers play Mississippi State on Feb. 7 on ESPNU, at Ole Miss on Feb. 11 on the SEC Network, Florida on Feb. 14 on the SEC Network and back-to-back road games at Texas A&M on Feb. 18 on ESPNU and at LSU on Feb. 21 on SEC Network to close out the brutal stretch.
Auburn plays two of its final three games, all on the SEC Network, at home vs. Arkansas on Feb. 25, at Georgia on March 1 and Missouri on March 4 on Senior Day as it will honor T.J. Dunans, Ronnie Johnson, LaRon Smith and Devin Waddell. The SEC Tournament is March 8-12 in Nashville, Tenn., at Bridgestone Arena.
Games listed with multiple networks are considered net flex and the network will be determined 7-10 days out.
Auburn's last SEC opener prior to January came at Vanderbilt on Dec. 14, 1988.
