AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn will host the men's tennis 2016 ITA Southern Regionals this Friday through Monday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"Fans can see some of the top collegiate players in the South, and our guys will get a great challenge in competition at the Regionals," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said. "It's nice to play at home, where our guys can sleep in their own beds and where they are in comfortable surroundings. That helps them play relaxed, and the fan support will also help us. We want to keep our tradition of success in the Regionals going."
Auburn has had four regional singles winners in the past seven years: 2009: Tim Puetz; 2011: Andreas Mies; 2014: Lukas Ollert; 2015: current senior Max Hinnisdaels.
There will be one 128-entry draw in singles and one 64-entry draw in doubles. All Auburn players except Viboosh Chandrasekar and Lewis Edwards are scheduled to compete.
Teams participating include host Auburn, Alabama, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Nicholls State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
Play begins Friday and Saturday at 8 a.m.; Sunday and Monday start times will be set later. The draw will be Thursday evening; go to www.AuburnTigers.com for bracket information and match times. Matches on the main six courts will be livestreamed online.
The singles and doubles champions advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., in November.
