No. 3 Auburn men's golf opens play at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

AUBURN, Ala. - No. 3 Auburn men's golf tees off at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Friday through Sunday at the par 72, 7,017-yard Lakeside Course and par 72, 7,039-yard Creekside Course at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga. 13 of the 17 teams competing are ranked in the top-25, including seven of the top-10.

The 17-team field includes No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 LSU, No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 Virginia, No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 13 Southern California, No. 14 Stanford, No. 16 Texas A&M, No. 19 Duke, No. 22 Georgia Tech, East Tennessee State, TCU, UCLA and Villanova.

The Tigers lineup consists of seniors Will Long, Ryan Benton and Matt Gilchrest, junior Ben Schlottman and freshman Jovan Rebula.

Long, a native of Gastonia, N.C., was co-medalist for the first time in his career at last year's Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (then named the U.S. Collegiate Championship). The ninth-ranked individual golfer in the country according to GolfStat has finished in the top-nine in all three events this fall while averaging 69.67.

Benton, a native of Dothan, Ala., has two top-four finishes this fall (runner-up at Carpet Capital Collegiate and t-4th at the Inverness Intercollegiate). He is averaging 71.33.

Gilchrest, a two-time All-SEC performer, is averaging 71.33 and tied for fourth at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Southlake, Texas, native tied his career low, as well as the second-lowest round in Auburn history, with a 64 at the Inverness Intercollegiate.

Rebula, a native of George, South Africa, will be competing in his third tournament of the season. He has finished in the top-25 in both tournaments played this fall and is averaging 70.83.

Schlottman, an All-American selection as freshman, is averaging 71.17 this season with two top-25 finishes.
