VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. - No. 2 Auburn men's golf shares the lead after the first and second round at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, carding a 2-under 284-274-558 at the Old Overton Club on Monday. Freshman Jovan Rebula is tied for second at 4-under 68-68-136, one shot back of Baylor's Matthew Perrine (5-under 68-67-135).
The Tigers are tied with Baylor (274-284-558) and six strokes ahead of UAB (285-279-564).
Rebula, a native of George, South Africa, started his day with an eagle on the par-4 sixth and followed with birdies on Nos. 10, 13, 14 and 15 on the back nine in the opening round. He birdied five more in the second round on Nos. 2, 5 and 9 on the front and 14 and 15 on the back. The pair of 68s are career-lows for the freshman.
Rebula, who is playing in his second collegiate tournament, is fresh off of his appearance at the World Amateur Team Championship in Mexico where he participated as a member of Team South Africa.
Senior Will Long is t-12th at even-par 70-70-140. The Gastonia, N.C., native tallied four birdies in the opening round on Nos. 9, 11, 15 and 16, and five in the second on Nos. 6, 9, 14, 15 and 16.
All-SEC senior Matt Gilchrest is a shot back at 1-over 76-65-141 and t-14th. After an opening round 76, the Southlake, Texas, native roared back to go 5-under 65 in the second round and climb 27 spots in the leaderboard. He had seven birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 6, 9 on the front and 11, 13 and 15 on the back in the second round.
All-America junior Ben Schlottman is tied with Gilchrest at 14th at 1-over 70-71-141. The Advance, N.C., native tallied six total birdies for the day. Senior Ryan Benton (76-72-148) is t-43rd.
UNLV is in fourth at 7-over 283-284-567 followed by Arkansas (285-285-570), Michigan (290-282-572), No. 16 Florida State (291-282-573), host Alabama (289-285-574), South Alabama (289-289-578), Charlotte (288-290-578), Mississippi State (296-283-579) and UTSA (301-284-585).
