Another week, another batch of honors. On Tuesday, College Swimming named Auburn's Luis Martinez its SEC Swimmer of the Week following the team's triumph over Tennessee last weekend. Just a few hours later, the Southeastern Conference tabbed Michael Duderstadt its Swimmer of the Week and Julie Meynen Freshman of the Week.
Martinez swept the butterfly events for the fourth time this year, winning the 200 in 1:46.59, over a second ahead of second place, and the 100 in 47.26, .72 faster than the runner-up.
Martinez' top 100 time of 47.10 from the LSU dual meet is currently sixth-fastest in the country and his best 200 time (1:46.50), also from the LSU meet, is currently 14th-fastest in the nation.
Duderstadt also had a big meet against the Volunteers. He swept the breaststroke events for the second straight dual meet and was on Auburn's top two relays. He won the 100 breaststroke, which he has done four times this season, in 53.73 and the 200, which he has done twice, in 1:59.94. His 100 time is currently the top time in the nation.
Duderstadt also swam on the winning 200 free relay, swimming the third leg in 19.67, the fastest third-leg split in the event and the second-fastest split overall. Auburn's winning time of 1:19.13 is currently fourth-fastest in the country.
Meynen continued the torrid start to her Auburn career by sweeping the sprint freestyle events for the second straight time and the third time overall.
Meynen won the 50 free in 22.65 and the 100 free in 49.42. Her 50 free time is currently tied for 13th in the nation and is second in the SEC. She also swam the anchor leg of the runner-up 200 medley relay and the second leg of the runner-up 200 free relay. Her 22.49 split on the 200 free relay was the fastest in the field and the team's time of 1:31.35 is 12th-fastest in the nation and second-best in the SEC.
Meynen has now earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors three times, also winning it Oct. 18 and Nov. 8.
Duderstadt joins Joe Patching (Oct. 18) and Scott Lazeroff (Nov. 8) in winning SEC weekly awards on the men's side while Ashley Neidigh previously won the SEC Women's Swimmer of the Week (Nov. 8) and Alison Maillard was previously a Freshman of the Week winner (Nov. 1).
Martinez is Auburn's second College Swimming SEC Male Swimmer of the Week, joining Peter Holoda (Oct. 18). Natasha Lloyd has also been a College Swimming SEC Female Swimmer of the Week (Oct. 18).
The Auburn women and the divers will continue competition when it travels to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational, Nov. 17-19. Auburn's men return to the pool Dec. 2-4 at the Georgia Invitational at Athens, Ga.
