Nov. 23, 2016 AUBURN, Ala. - Junior forward Kristen Dodson and senior midfielder Brooke Ramsier have earned spots on TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week following a pair of NCAA Tournament wins over No. 13 UConn and No. 9 Florida in Gainesville last weekend.
The dynamic duo's recognition marks the first time in program history that two Tigers have been named to the country's top team of the week. Ramsier's laurel also marks a first in the Auburn record books as she has been honored in consecutive weeks by the soccer outlet.
Collectively, Dodson and Ramsier tallied four goals and three assists en route to the program's first ever trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Dodson also broke the school's single season record for points with 38 entering this Friday's match.
After an early goal was surrendered against UConn in the second round duel, Dodson smashed home the equalizer after finding the near post to knot the match up at 1-1 with just five minutes played.
The Aurora, Ill. native then racked up two assists to ice the match and send Auburn to the Sweet 16. In that match, Dodson drew a penalty that was converted and then chipped the keeper from 30-plus yards in the 85th minute to put the game out of reach.
Ramsier rattled home two goals and one assist in the two matches. In the tilt with UConn, the Dallas, Texas native sent in a corner that was scored by Gianna Montini, which held on as the match-winner. She then found the upper 90 on a shot from distance just before halftime to put the Tigers up 3-1.
Against the Gators, Ramsier opened the scoring after blasting a volley from outside of the box into the far post corner and gave Auburn a lead it would never relinquish.
Dodson, Ramsier and their teammates are set to take on No. 7 USC in Los Angeles in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT/3 p.m. CT.
