Pete Turnham turned in a career-best score on the 3-meter while Scott Lazeroff finished in third, one place behind Turnham, on day two of the Auburn Diving Invitational.

"I was really pleased with the way Pete and Scott stepped up in the finals tonight," head coach Jeff Shaffer said. "They were steady in prelims and they are starting to do the things that I'm looking for."

Turnham posted a 382.70 during the finals, topping his career-best of 375.45 from the Tennessee dual meet earlier this year. He had reached the final eight after scoring a 348.65 during prelims, which was sixth. On Saturday he had placed third on the 1-meter.

Lazeroff reached the finals after posting a 353.85 during prelims, which was fourth. He then scored a 374.60 in the finals for his second top-three finish in two days.

"The biggest thing they need to focus on between now and getting ready for SECs is pretty much form and finish to our dives," Shaffer said. "We are starting to compete and that's great."

Justin Checchin scored a 278.75 to place 12th during 3-meter prelims and then scored a 258.20 to take fifth in the consolation finals.

Maddie Cox, who had reached the 1-meter finals with a 285.95 during prelims, scored a 261.60 in finals to finish seventh. Her prelims score was second-best in the field and also a personal-best, her second of the weekend.

Alison Maillard also had a personal-best during the 1-meter prelims, scoring a 279.00, which put her in fifth. She then scored a 249.20 during the finals, which placed her eighth.

Claire Schuermann placed 18th (235.70) and Miranda Telmanik placed 21st (210.75) on the 1-meter.

"Maddie was really steady in the prelims and then fell off a little bit in the finals," Shaffer said. "The other girls need to step up and compete to the level that I know they can."

The invitational concludes with Monday's platform session, which begins at 11 a.m.

Also competing at the meet are divers from Alabama, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee.
