AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Senior distance runner Veronica Eder and freshman sprinter Akeem Bloomfield both earned SEC weekly honors after posting national top times at the Commodore Invitational, the league announced Tuesday.
"It's a great honor to have these two athletes recognized for their performances this weekend," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "It's good to see them run those times at the first meet of the season. The SEC is an extremely challenging league and Veronica and Akeem will help us to compete at the highest level. I look forward to seeing them continue to improve as the season goes on."
SEC Women's Runner of the Week Eder finished the 3000m in a NCAA-best 9:24.31. Her mark moved her into second all-time on Auburn's top performance list in the event.
Bloomfield earned SEC Freshman of the Week after posting the NCAA's top time of the season in the 400-meters. In the first indoor meet of his career, the Jamaica native finished in 46.68, which also ranks eighth in Auburn history.
Auburn will be back in action Saturday for the Auburn Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex, where Tigers will host No. 3 LSU, No. 17 Alabama and No. 21 Ohio State.
