AUBURN, Ala. - After being a key component to Auburn's back-to-back record-setting seasons, James Armstrong has been elevated to Associate Head Coach, head coach Karen Hoppa announced.
"James has earned this promotion as he has played an integral role in our success since his arrival on The Plains," said Hoppa. "He has made a major impact in our recruiting, and our offense is coming off one of our best years in program history."
In Armstrong's last three seasons on staff, the Tigers have scored 121 goals, which stands as the most in any three-year stretch in program history since 2000-02.
With consistent improvement each season for goals scored, Auburn has climbed its way from 181st in the country in scoring before Armstrong's arrival to 20th in 2016.
More recently in the past two seasons, the Tigers amassed 85 goals, which tied for the program mark for the most ever in a two-year span with the 1994-95 squads.
Last season, Armstrong was instrumental in the tutelage of All-SEC performer Kristen Dodson as she broke the program's single-season point record of 38. The previous record of 35 had stood for over 15 years.
Armstrong also coached the nation's highest-scoring sister combination in All-SEC standouts Brooke and Casie Ramsier. Collectively, the Ramsier's tallied 152 points in their four-year careers.
In 2016, the Tigers rattled home 47 goals, the fourth-best for a season in Auburn history. Armstrong was key in the development of four All-SEC attacking threats in Kristen Dodson, Bri Folds, Brooke Ramsier and Casie Ramsier.
Dodson and Casie Ramsier went on to score 13 and 12 goals, respectively, marking the first time a duo has secured 10-plus goals in a season since 2000.
In 2015, he coached All-SEC selection Casie Ramsier who netted 12 goals - the most by any single player since 2003 and tied for the second-highest total in single-season program history.
In 2014, the Tigers scored 36 goals from 12 different players. Nine of those players had multi-goal seasons with departing senior Tori Ball leading the way with five goals. The 36 goals tied for the sixth-best total in the conference.
Armstrong made his way to Auburn for his first season in 2013 from Lonestar SC, a club soccer team out of Texas.
