AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn University will host a day-of-giving on Feb. 21 and Auburn Athletics will take part seeking donations to fund student-athlete internships with a goal of raising $10,000. The 24-hour fundraising campaign features more than 20 projects from units all across campus and can be found at TigerGiving.org.
Auburn Athletics is asking fans, donors and supporters to give to its project of providing internship assistance to its student-athletes. Due to demanding competition schedules and full-academic workloads, student-athletes typically use the summer months to gain on-the-job training through internships. These donations will be used to provide financial supplement for the living expenses needed to travel outside of the Auburn-Opelika area or accept unpaid internships.
"We always talk about wanting our student-athletes to leave Auburn with two things ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" a diploma in hand and a championship ring on their finger," Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. "But there is a third thing. We want them to leave with a job offer leading toward a successful career. Internships are a vital part of networking and job training. We don't want anything to stand in the way of our student-athletes obtaining those valuable internships."
Tigers Unlimited members David and Jodie McGirt have pledged a donation to support this mission and have agreed to match all donations totaling $10,000 submitted on Tiger Giving Day.
Donations of any amount can be posted online at TigerGiving.org.
