Feb. 14, 2017

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn softball program will host a season-long "Strike Out Hunger" Food Drive for all home games at Jane B. Moore Field this season. The drive will be in support of the community and the Food Bank of East Alabama.

Continuing the trend from the fall schedule, each person who brings a nonperishable food donation to any Auburn Softball home game will receive a $1 beverage coupon to use at the concession stands at Jane B. Moore Field.

Last season, collections totaled over 7,000 pounds of food through 11 arrangements with the Food Bank of East Alabama. The total amount of food donated was equivalent to over 5,400 meals.

Donated food is channeled into the senior programs, soup kitchens, low-income day cares, emergency food pantries, missions, and rehabilitation centers that are served by the Food Bank.
The Auburn-Opelika community has been extremely supportive of the Auburn softball program, and the Tigers are looking to give back to the fans and community that have given so much to it.

As fans pour in to Jane B. Moore Field for an Auburn softball game this season, they will find donation barrels right inside the entrances. Event personnel will verify acceptable donations and give one beverage coupon per donating fan. The coupon is only valid for that game.

The most needed items are: peanut butter, canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon, etc.), canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned and boxed meals (soup, macaroni and cheese, etc.), canned or dried beans, pasta, rice, cereal or fruit juice.

Items that will not be accepted are rusty or unlabeled cans, items in glass containers, baby food or formula, homemade items, non-commercial canned or packaged items, alcoholic beverages or open or used items.

The season opener is set for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. versus SIUE. The game can be seen on SEC Network+.
