AUBURN, Ala. - Carmyn Greenwood delivered a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the No. 2 Auburn softball team to a 4-3 win against SIUE. The Tigers (4-1) won their home opener for the 21st consecutive season.

Auburn tallied five hits, including two home runs, from five different sources. Carlee Wallace totaled two RBI, while Greenwood reached base safely three times.
Kaylee Carlson earned the win in the circle after she came in relief for the final two innings. She did not allow a hit and struck out one, while facing eight batters.
Makayla Martin got the start and worked the first six frames, striking out a season-high seven and allowing only one earned run.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Wallace belted an 0-2 pitch into the night sky in left field, plating Kasey Cooper.
SIUE (5-1) cut the deficit to one in the third with an RBI single to the grass that made it 2-1 in favor of the home team.
In the fourth, Kendall Veach belted her third home run of 2017 to increase Auburn's lead to 3-1. Veach's roundtripper marked the Tigers' third solo homer of the year.
Two innings later, the Cougars knotted the game up at 3-3 through two runs on two hits and one Auburn error.
In the eighth stanza, Carlson put SIUE down in order, setting up a dramatic home half of the frame.
Haley Fagan led off with a hard-hit single to left field. Veach then drew a walk and both runners made it into scoring position following a sacrifice bunt down the chalk from Courtney Shea.
Greenwood then stepped to the plate and drove the first pitch she saw into deep center field and ended the game, sending the Tigers to victory, 4-3.
Auburn returns to Jane B. Moore Field for the second day of the Plainsman Invitational Friday afternoon. The Tigers take on Creighton at 2:30 p.m. and then host a rematch with SIUE at 4:45 p.m.
