AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Junior shortstop Luke Jarvis hit a 3-run double in the sixth inning and Auburn held on for a 4-3 series-clinching win over George Washington Sunday at Plainsman Park.

"I'm just thankful for the grind, thankful for another one-run game going into the ninth," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "I was uncharacteristic, a lot more vocal today with our guys, but this is what we've got to do to keep growing, is pushing these moments. We had a couple of really good moments to end innings."

Jarvis came through in the clutch with Auburn trailing 2-1 as be battled for the go-ahead double with two outs and a full count.

"I just got a fastball that kind of hung up there over the plate," Jarvis said. "That's what Coach [Sisson] has been preaching for us since day one is to be ready outside for when you get to two strikes and react in. Our primary goal is to see something out over the plate and let it get deep enough and not too big."

After falling into an early 2-0 hole after the first inning, Auburn (3-1) cut the lead in half on a Bo Decker double that scored Jonah Todd in the second. Decker finished with three hits.

Todd and Jay Estes each had two hits. Robert singled in the first inning to extend his reached base streak to 19 games dating back to March 13, 2016. Robert missed the final six weeks of the 2016 season due to injury.

Freshman right-hander Davis Daniel made his college debut and pitched 4.1 innings with two runs allowed. He struck out three with no walks.

Andrew Mitchell improved to 1-0 with two innings out of the bullpen. He struck out two and allowed two hits.

Robert made his first appearance on the mound in 2017, entering with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh. He allowed a sac fly, but nothing else to escape the jam with Auburn leading 4-3.

Right-hander Corey Herndon pitched the ninth to record his first career save.

Robbie Metz led the Colonials with two hits and two RBI. He also started on the mound and limited Auburn to one run on eight hits in five innings. Tyler Swiggart (0-1) took the loss with three runs allowed in one inning.

Auburn's next action is Tuesday at Plainsman Park at 3 pm against Jacksonville State.
