AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn’s Max Hinnisdaels has been named SEC player of the week in men’s tennis, the conference announced today, the first Auburn player to be honored this season.

The senior from Rode, Belgium, posted two wins in singles and a win in doubles last weekend against Samford, raising his singles record to 5-3 and his doubles mark to 4-1 this spring. He has played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Tigers this season.

In the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, Hinnisdaels is No. 59 nationally in singles, improving 32 spots from the previous ratings. In doubles, Hinnisdaels and Huertas del Pino are No. 17 nationally.

Georgia’s Robert Loeb was named the SEC freshman of the week.

Auburn (6-4) begins play Friday in the 69th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

The Tigers’ first match is Friday at 12:30 p.m. facing Princeton; later Friday, Auburn will face either South Carolina or Texas Tech. Other teams in the men’s draw include Alabama, Virginia Tech, Boise State and Rice. Championship matches will be held on Saturday.
