AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn Men's Golfers Will Long, Matt Gilchrest and Trace Crowe are under consideration for the 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup.
The second of three rankings were released on Wednesday. The top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and Europe will be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup at Atlanta Athletic Club June 9-11.
Long, a senior from Gastonia, N.C., ranked 18th in the first of three Palmer Cup Rankings. He previously ranked No. 4 in the fall ranking prior to the beginning of the spring season. It is the second consecutive season that he has been a member of the rankings, as he ranked No. 7 in the fall rankings as a junior.
Long leads the team in stroke average (70.78), has 10 sub-par rounds and seven rounds in the 60s, both best on the team. He has four top-10 finishes in six events played including a 3rd place finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate.
Gilchrest ranks third on the team at 71.67 strokes. The native of Southlake, Texas, has three top-10 finishes this season, including a t-4th at the Inverness Intercollegiate.
Gilchrest, a two-time All-SEC selection, carded a career low-tying 64 in the opening round of the Inverness, tying for the second-lowest round in school history, one shot behind Kyle Kopsick's 9-under 63 at the 2009 Gary Koch Invitational.
Crowe, a sophomore from Bluffton, S.C., ranks second on the team in stroke average (70.92) and has three top-25 finishes. He led the Tigers as an individual at the Amer Ari Invitational tying for 10th at 9-under 207.
