AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" Auburn freshman women's golfer Elena Hualde was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Hualde, a native of Pamplona, Spain, earned her second tournament victory of the season Sunday, posting scores of 68-72=140 (-4) to win by three strokes at the Auburn-Tennessee Challenge at the Auburn University Club. She was one of two players in the field to finish under par ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" along with sophomore teammate Mai Dechathipat ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" and it was her second straight tournament and fourth time this season for Hualde to finish a tournament under par.
So far this season, Hualde owns a 72.00 scoring average with 11 of 19 rounds at even par or better. She is a combined 10-under through two spring events, and all five rounds this spring have been even par or better.
This is the first SEC honor for Hualde and the first for an Auburn women's golfer since Kelli Murphy earned Freshman of the Week honors in 2015.
Hualde and the Tigers are in Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which runs Friday-Sunday at Long Cove Club.
