AUBURN, Ala. -- Davis Daniel earned his first career win and posted career-bests with six innings pitched and eight strikeouts as Auburn baseball shutout Presbyterian 8-0 Sunday at Plainsman Park.
"You look tough when you execute a lot, and Davis Daniel did that on the mound for us," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "He really allowed us to kind of keep chipping away offensively. By far, the coolest temperatures that we've played in this year and I thought the guys responded very well."
Daniel worked through the sixth inning for the first time in his career. He scattered three hits on a career-best 92 pitches to improve to 1-0.
Auburn (12-5) capitalized on five Presbyterian errors on the day including scoring runs in both the first and third innings to stake the Tigers to an early 2-0 lead. In the fourth, Josh Anthony was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 3-0 advantage.
The offense broke through with three in the fifth on three consecutive RBI singles by Bowen McGuffin, Will Holland and Jonah Todd. Todd reached base four times with three walks.
Auburn tacked on two more in the eighth as Jay Estes came around to score on another error and Conor Davis doubled home Blake Logan. Davis had two hits and scored twice with one RBI.
Daniel Robert singled in the third inning to extend his reached-base streak to 32 games dating back to 2016.
Calvin Coker pitched two scoreless innings and Daniel Sprinkle got the final three outs as the Tigers wrapped their NCAA-leading sixth shutout of the season.
Hayden Deal (1-2) took the loss as the Blue hose dropped to 9-9 on the season. AJ Priaulx led PC with two hits.
Auburn is in action next on Tuesday when it hosts UAB at Plainsman Park. First pitch is 3 pm.
