AUBURN, Ala. -- Gabe Klobosits tossed six scoreless inning as Auburn baseball shutout UAB 4-0 Tuesday at Plainsman Park.
"Gabe's first inning was kind of like his stat sheet where he had thrown like seven innings, had 15 hits and there were four hard-hit barrels," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "He got out of it and I said, `We need to make an adjustment.'
"He started throwing a little bit across his body to right-handers. He had an eight right-handed hitting lineup today and he really started getting some ground ball action. To throw six innings is huge for him."
Klobosits entered for the second inning after designated starter Andrew Mitchell completed a scoreless first. Mitchell got the win by rule to improve to 3-0 on the season. Klobosits finished with three strikeouts while scattering six hits.
Ryan Watson pitched the final two innings to give Auburn its NCAA-leading seventh shutout of the season.
The Tigers (13-5) took advantage of two double plays in the game and has turned 10 over their last seven. The Auburn pitching staff has not allowed an earned run in the last 27 innings pitched.
Blake Logan provided the early offense as his 2-run double staked Auburn to a 2-0 first-inning lead.
Luke Jarvis added a run-scoring double in the sixth and Conor Davis followed with a pinch-hit RBI single in the same inning to build a 4-0 advantage.
Jarvis was 2-for-3 with a walk and RBI. Bowen McGuffin had two hits.
Stephen Dobbs had two hits for UAB (11-6). Tanner Graham started and took the loss to drop to 1-1.
Auburn is in action next against Jacksonville State Wednesday. First pitch is 3 pm.
