Haley Black missed the school record in the 100 fly by .01 seconds and will swim in the middle of the pool during tonight's consolation finals at the 2017 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium. It will be the first of two events for Black during the finals session as the 200 medley relay team qualified 16th.
Black, a junior, touched in 51.47 to tie for ninth in prelims. Her swim was good enough for second in her heat and lowered her personal best by .33 seconds.
Olivia Scott holds the school record at 51.46, set at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
Black will return just a few races later as the 200 medley relay team qualified for the consolation finals with a time of 1:37.36. Aly Tetzloff led off in 24.98 before giving way to Natasha Lloyd on the breaststroke leg (27.49). Black's fly (23.12) leg gave way to Julie Meynen on the freestyle anchor leg (21.77).
Lloyd is the second alternate for tonight's 100 breaststroke competition after placing 18th in prelims in 1:00.02. Breanna Roman placed 39th (1:00.95).
Ashley Neidigh set a personal-best in finishing 32nd in the 400 IM (4:12.07) while Zoe Thatcher's 4:10.97 placed her 27th in the event, a 15-spot improvement from last year.
In the 100 fly, Bailey Nero finished 36th (52.95) and Aly Tetzloff was 44th (53.44).
ESPN3.com will stream the championships finals sessions live on Friday and Saturday. Wednesday's evening session, Thursday's sessions along with the morning sessions on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on NCAA.com and indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour broadcast via tape delay at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Tuesday, March 28. Live results for the championships will be available on NCAA.com.
