AUBURN, Ala. -- The Auburn women's golf team returns to action this week at the Briar's Creek Invitational, which runs Monday-Tuesday in Johns Island, S.C.

The teams will play 36 holes Monday and finish with an 18-hole round Tuesday at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek (par 72, 6,101 yards).

"This is a new course for us, right outside of Charleston," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "It's run by the College of Charleston, and we've been to a couple of other tournaments they've hosted, and they've been great, quality events with really wonderful golf courses. I'm looking forward to the golf course. When none of us have seen the golf course, our top priority is to have a good game plan. It's always a good strategy to look at a hole from the green backwards, then coming up with a conservative strategy that allows us to make aggressive swings."

Auburn will send a lineup of freshmen Elena Hualde and Kayley Marschke, sophomore Melanie Talbott and juniors Kelli Murphy and Michaela Owen to the event. Hualde leads the Tigers so far this season with a 72.45 scoring average and two individual tournament victories, including seven rounds and four tournaments where she finished under par.

Owen and Murphy have also played in every event so far this season, posting scoring averages of 73.82 and 73.77, respectively, and Marschke will be playing in her eighth team event of the year. Talbott is making her third team start this season.

A strong, 18-team field awaits the 41st-ranked Tigers with 10 teams ranked in the Golfstat top 50. No. 6 Florida leads the way, followed by No. 14 Miami, No. 27 Ohio State, No. 29 Illinois, No. 32 Texas Tech, No. 34 North Carolina, No. 43 Louisville, No. 44 Wisconsin and No. 49 East Carolina. Rounding out the field are Boston College, Campbell, tournament host College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Kansas, Long Beach State, Michigan State and Penn State.

This is Auburn's first appearance in this event, now in its fifth year. Pairings had not been announced as of this release, but play will begin both days with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
