Gilchrest t-7th, No. 20 Auburn Men's Golf 9th after Hootie at Bulls Bay 2nd round

AWENDAW, S.C. - All-SEC senior Matt Gilchrest remains tied for seventh at the Hootie at Bulls Bay after carding an even-par 72 in the second round on Monday at the Bulls Bay Golf Course for a total of 3-under 69-72-141.

Gilchrest, a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, is six strokes back off co-leaders Braden Thornberry (66-69-135) and Ben Wolcott (67-68-135), both from Ole Miss. The Southlake, Texas, native carded three birdies on the day, bringing his two-day total to seven.

No. 20 Auburn is ninth at 1-over 284-193-577. South Carolina and Ole Miss co-lead at 11-under 565.

Senior Ryan Benton, playing as an individual, is t-17th at 1-under 71-72-143 while sophomore Trace Crowe is a shot back and t-22nd at even-par 69-75-144.

Sophomore Jacob Solomon used a seven-birdie, 2-under 70 round to climb up the leaderboard and t-35th at 1-over 75-70-145. The Dublin, Calif., product birdied Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 9 on the front and 10, 11 and 18 on the back.

Senior Will Long is 73rd at 8-over 76-76-152 and freshman Jovan Rebula is t-74th at 71-82-153.

NC State is third at 8-under 287-281-568 followed by Georgia State (277-283-570), Kentucky (287-287-574), Missouri (287-287-574), Purdue (285-290-575), No. 2 Virginia (281-295-576), Auburn and Kansas (288-290-578).

Houston and Richmond are tied for 11th at 3-over 579 with College of Charleston (290-297-587), Charleston Southern (292-303-595) and Wisconsin (294-305-599) rounding out the field.
