BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Auburn Men's Golf freshman Jovan Rebula has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Freshman Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Rebula, a native of George, South Africa, had a career-best tie for fifth finish at the Gary Koch Invitational, carding a 4-under 69-72-71--212 to help lead Auburn to their fourth team win of the season. He tallied 13 birdies over 54 holes in the event.
"Jovan had another excellent performance this week and continues to impress Coach Maggard and myself," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "He's really playing well and is a very smart player that understands the game. He's extremely mature, a team player and I know he's looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."
It is the second time Rebula has earned SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week honors this season. He previously earned the title on March 8, following a t-8th finish at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.
Rebula is the first Tiger to earn multiple SEC weekly honors since Michael Johnson was twice-named SEC Men's Golfer of the Week last season.
Rebula has carded 18 rounds at par or better this season, just one shy of the team lead. He also has 11 sub-par rounds and seven rounds in the 60s. In addition to the top-five finish, he has finished eighth twice at the Jerry Pate National and Tiger Invitational.
Auburn returns to action April 21-24 at the SEC Championship at Sea Island, Ga.
